NZIODA Clinics 2022/23

NZIODA in collaboration with clubs around New Zealand, NZIODA will run two clinics this season.

We will let you know when registrations are open.

The NZIODA SI Opti Clinic is being held again this year and is back better than ever thanks to the support of the Queen Charlotte YC.  NZIODA initiated the annual South Island Training Camp programme several years ago and this has been popular with sailors from all over the South Island in the past.  This year it is likely to be as popular as ever as it provides sailing on the waters where the only Ranking Regatta (apart from the Nationals) is being held, on the stunning Queen Charlotte Sound.

The South Island Clinic rotates between the venues of Picton and Wainui in Akaroa Harbour.  South Island clubs take turns to host this event and it has traditionally been run by Charteris Bay YC, Queen Charlotte YC, and Nelson SC (in a three-year cycle) in conjunction with NZIODA.

Sailors live-in at the camp for the duration of four days, with a few parents pitching in to perform some of the camp duties over the week.

Places are limited and priority will be given to sailors from the South Island.

Queen Charlotte Yacht Club and Sounds

This year the sailors will stay in the recently built Queen Charlotte Yacht Club rooms.  Sailing will take place in the sounds which provides a plethora of bays for a destination sail, as well as the stretch of water that many sailors will come back to compete on at the ‘Inter-Islander Regatta’, which is NZIODA’s only Ranking Regatta apart from the nationals this season.  This is renowned as a challenging area to sail in due to the shifty conditions that the surrounding landmass provides.
