This is a reminder to get your registration in for the first event in the 2026/27 Oborn’s Nautical South Island Optimist Traveller Series – The South Island Age Group Regatta – SIAG – being held at the Charteris Bay Yacht Club in less than two weeks time – on the 24th and 25th October, 2026.
This is a great chance to dust off your Opti and get along to a great family event held on the stunning Lyttelton Harbour – renowned for its great sea breeze sailing. SIAG is one of the earliest historical Optimist regattas which has been held annually at the ‘Home of the Optimist’ since the 1970s when the first Optimist took to the waters in New Zealand. This year it kicks off our South Island Traveller Series being earlier in the season calendar than usual. This regatta is well known for its friendly and warm atmosphere, great sea breeze sailing, and its individual gift for every sailor from generous sponsors – the MacGregor family.
