Expressions of Interest for NZIODA Coaching for the 2026 / 2027 Season Now Open
If you would like to be considered for an NZIODA coaching role for the upcoming 2026 / 2027 Optimist season then now is the time to let us know.
NZIODA are seeking Opti coaches for our North and South Island clinics as well as for the following Optimist Teams for 2027 :-
North Island Clinic
– Eastern Beach, Auckland, 12 – 15 January 2027
South Island Clinic
– Nelson Yacht Club, 23 – 26 January 2027
Wellington Regional Clinic
– Worser Bay Boat Club, 6-8 February 2027
IODA Optimist World Championship
– Lanzarote, Spain, 24 June to 4 July 2027
IODA European Championship
– Weymouth, Great Britain, 21 – 28 August 2027
IODA Asian and Oceanian Championship
– TBC
Girls Development Team
– Lake Macquarie, NSW, October 2027
Junior Boys Development Team
– Lake Macquarie, NSW, October 2027
Senior Development Team
– Lake Macquarie, NSW, October 2027
As a Committee we want to create a pool of coaches that have a variety of skill levels and geographic locations so that we can work with you across this season and beyond. Our aim is to further grow and build the coaching talent New Zealand has while providing a coaching pathway for New Zealand coaches to embrace.
You will be expected to be involved in coaching forums and will need to complete coaching, safety, first aid and rhib certifications to an appropriate level. You will also be expected to be involved in NZIODA clinics if you wish to take on a team coaching role. This could be at the North Island, South Island or a Regional Clinic anywhere throughout New Zealand.
If you are keen to grow your skills as a coach, be instrumental in developing the next generation of sailing talent in New Zealand, and want to have the chance to travel the world doing what you love, then register your interest below.
The deadline to show your interest is Sunday 4th October 2026. Once all applications have been received and reviewed we aim to notify coaches who have been chosen to attend the NZIODA clinics by mid November and those who will lead an NZIODA team in 2027 by late January 2027.
