Introducing the 2025 / 26 South Island Traveller Series

This season NZIODA has simplified the South Island Traveller Series to include three popular South Island events hosted by clubs with active Opti fleets.  The purpose of this series is to connect our South Island sailors, create bigger fleets for better competition and create more opportunities to have fun with sailing mates.

The three events that make up this series are spread around three different locations and yacht clubs in the South Island. These events are a great way to experience a wide range of sailing in many different geographical locations throughout the South Island; each offering different sailing conditions to help build a well rounded sailor.  They are also a great way to meet new sailing friends and reconnect with mates throughout the sailing season.

This year’s South Island Traveller Series will include the following events:

No. 1. Whakatu Regatta on 10th to 11th January 2026 – Nelson Yacht Club, Nelson

No. 2. South Island Age Group Regatta (SIAG) on 7th to 8th February 2026 – Charteris Bay Yacht Club, Canterbury

No. 3. Interislander and South Island Championship on 21st to 22nd February 2026 – Queen Charlotte Yacht Club, Picton

To be eligible for this series sailors will need to :-

  • be current NZIODA members
  • compete in the Open fleet at these events

Results from all of these events will be counted towards a sailor’s final overall score for the traveller series, however this does not mean that a sailor is required to attend all 3 events.

Trophies will be awarded to the top Male and Female in the South Island Traveller Series with certificates for podium finishers.
