The 2024/25 season has seen some big changes in the Green fleet as NZIODA look to encourage the next generation of sailors to get out on the water and have heaps of fun trying out different kinds of racing, while making great friendships along the way. This fleet has evolved over the season as different clubs and race officers bring their expertise and ideas to help inspire beginner sailors to move from learning to sail into learning to race.
This video created by James Garnham from Wakatere Boating Club does an outstanding job of showcasing what this stage of sailing is all about. From the satisfaction of having a podium finish in a race, to the exhilaration of trying out a SailGP course, and the fun of competing with a team of mates in a crazy relay; this video has it all.
A big thank you to our race officers who have taken on the challenge and helped to make the Green Fleet a whole heap of fun. A special thanks to James for sharing this video with us and to the Wakatere Boating Club and other clubs and families around the country who have helped young sailors like James into the sport by loaning them a boat to get their sailing journey started.
