As has been discussed, and due to the Northern Hemisphere schedule, for the first time we are running a selection regatta to select our travelling teams for 2025. The teams we are selecting for are the Worlds, Euros and NAMs (a total of 13 sailors). We are not selecting the development teams from this event- these sailors will be selected from the Nationals only.
This regatta is taking place at Howick at the end of February.
No restrictions have been placed on who can sail in this regatta.
However, this regatta will be run in accordance of IODA regulations. This means measurement, judges and protests. Further to this, this event needs to provide selection of these teams and as such we have modified our guidelines to enable a series to be raced. What this translates to is; if as a sailor you are outside the finishing time, the next race may start before you arrive at the start line, or you may not have enough time for food etc. Up to 5 races may also be sailed in a day (if required). We also highly encourage parents and sailors to read the NOR around support boats and coaches- as these instructions are different to the nationals.
This event is not sponsored and has no prizes. The only objective is to select the teams outlined above (not development).
We as a committee highly encourage both sailors and parents to consider whether they should enter this selection process. Perhaps a good place to start is this question, am I/ or is our child, going to comfortably make the gold fleet at this years Nationals? If the answer is probably not, this selection trial may not be for you/ your child.
It is our intention as a committee not to put off our sailors, only to provide information that is selection trial is not “just another Auckland Champs”.
