There’s only one more day to register for the NZIODA North Island Opti Clinic which takes place from 13th to 16th January, 2025 at Eastern Beach. This clinic is run by the NZIODA in association with the Kohimarama Yacht Club.
For four days in January, young sailors will receive great coaching under the guidance of some of our top NZIODA coaches from New Zealand and around the world. Our coaching line up includes:
- Tiago Brito who is an experienced international optimist coach and World Champion sailor and the current head optimist coach at Murrays Bay Sailing Club.
- Gauthier Thomas who has recently become the Wakatere Head Coach having previously coached the French national team at the optimist worlds. He has had some impressive success as a coach including coaching the 2021 female optimist world champion.
- We are also very excited to introduce Peter McCann from Ireland. Peter is a professional coach with a wealth of international experience. Most recently he was a coach for the Australian Optimist Sailing Team based in Melbourne. As a sailor he has 8 national titles to his name and multiple medals at major European regattas.
We are offering 3 different options to allow everyone to be involved:
OPTION 1:
4 days of sailing and a live in clinic – Cost $620.00
Start time 9.00 am on Monday 13th Jan and finishing on Thursday 16th Jan at 4 pm.
OPTION 2:
3 days of sailing and a live in clinic – Cost $500.00
Start time 9.00 am on Monday 13th Jan and finishing on Wednesday 15th Jan at 4 pm.
OPTION 3:
3 days of sailing and a live in clinic – Cost $500.00
Start time 9.00 am on Tuesday 14th Jan and finishing on Thursday 16th Jan at 4 pm.
All shore-based activities, mealtimes and night supervision will be taken care of by an appointed shore manager and parent volunteers. You can either offer to be part of the action as parent help or drop your young sailor off and pick them up four days later. Whatever works best for your family.
We promise sailors a fun and supportive four days, allowing them to hone their sailing skills and make new friends in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

A reminder that the overall cost includes a 30% non-refundable deposit if the sailor cancels up to 10 days prior to the clinic. Any refunds for cancellations received within 10 days of the clinic starting will be at NZIODA’s discretion.
The closing date for registrations is Friday November 29th, 2024. Any entries received after this date will be at the discretion of NZIODA and will incur a LATE PENALTY FEE OF 30% of the registration costs. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide our complementary clinic T-shirt to those who register after this date.
