NZIODA : Covid-19 as it stands

Attached is the latest bulletin from our international governing body IODA. These notices may be accessed on the Optimist Worlds website. Your committees first concerns are for the sailors and where we are gathered all steps will be taken to make sure sailors are safe. Fortunately we are still quite removed from the epicentres of this pandemic though everyone is realising how much they still find themselves effected by it influences. NZIODA continues to move forward at this point with its plans within government and national regulations.The committee is mindful of the different reactions to this situation and any final decisions regarding participation must rest with participants themselves. We will keep you posted as soon as we hear anything that concerns our association.

Message #3 to Members ASIANS & OCEANIANS The 2020 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship is scheduled to take place June 6th to 13th in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. IODA has been monitoring the COVID -19 issue closely as it affects our upcoming IODA events in June and July. At this point in time, the 2020 Asian & Oceanian Championship will proceed as planned. The Organizers of the 2020 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship, with the support of IODA, have agreed to extend the 2nd Entry Deadline to March 30th. IODA and the Organizers will be revisiting this decision at the end of March to determine if the event will be postponed to a later date in the year. At this moment, we hope that the combined actions of the medical fraternity re COVID-19 shall soon bear fruit and a cure / treatment shall be soon found. Our intention is not to cancel the championship as far as possible, however, safety and well-being of the young sailors is our first priority. As IODA continues to monitor the situation, we are also in discussions with the 2020 European and World Championship Organizers to discuss the options going forward and will keep our members informed of any developments or decisions at our earliest opportunity.
