Officials & Coaches

NZIODA Measurement Officials

NZIODA appoint a Chief Measurement Officer and his Measurement Team, who’s role is to answer any equipment questions you may have and ensure competitor equipment meets the Class rules.

If you don’t have, lose or alter your equipment (most common items are sail number changes) you can contact your closest Measurer to get a certificate for your equipment.

Certificate Costs

To get your equipment certified by a NZIODA approved measurer it will cost you $10 per certificate. Each certificate may contain multiple equipment items e.g. A Foil Certificate includes both Centerboard and Rudder. A Spar certificate includes Mast, Boom and Sprit.

This charge goes to the Measurer to recover a small portion of their costs that include time, travel cost and printing but by no means fully covers their costs so please treat them well!

The international one design Optimist relies on rules and measurement to maintain the appeal of an even playing field.

If you require a measurer please contact them directly.

The NZIODA Committee have a pool of coaches who can be contracted by NZIODA for IODA, GDS, Noumean Team and North/South Island Clinics.  It is an initiative of the NZIODA Committee to provide a “Coaches Pathway”, further details will be published when available.

NZIODA Coaches Expression of Interest

As a Committee we want to create a pool of coaches that have a variety of skill levels and geographic locations so that we can work with you across this season and beyond. Our aim is to further grow and build on the coaching talent New Zealand has while providing a coaching pathway for New Zealand coaches to embrace.

You will be expected to be involved in coaching forums, look to complete coaching, safety and rhib certifications and be involved in NZIODA clinics as part of the role.

If you are keen to grow your skills as a coach, be instrumental in developing the next generation of sailing talent in New Zealand, and want to have the chance to travel the world doing what you love, we want to hear from you.

To be considered to join the NZIODA coaching pool please e mail nzoptimist@gmail.com with your sailing CV and covering letter.
