North Island Clinic – Day 1 Summary

The NZIODA Opti North Island Camp kicked off this Monday morning with a bright sunny day and a hive of activity at Willow Park, Eastern Beach. Old friends were spotted and new acquaintances made as 50 odd youngsters from a range of clubs arrived laden with sleeping bags and boats (and a gazillion of other things). No time was wasted and the group got onto the water quickly, sailors and helpers challenged by a lengthy low tide trolley-tramp and stronger than expected breeze. Many sailors were glad to work on rigging and fine tuning on land after lunch, while others headed out again, enjoying some fabulously fast reaches with gusts in the high twenties. “Stunt of the day” goes to a young sailor performing a pitch-pole move that saw them balanced vertically for a few beautiful seconds of Titanic grace.

The day finished with an ice cream and an “ice breaker”, both thoroughly enjoyable.

Thanks Anke Hoffman for the great update.
