David Kayrouz – President retiring November 2020 – Vacant Position

David is the NZIODA’s President and has had three children sail through the Optimist class. He is passionate about sailing as a means of developing life skills seeing the benefits to his own family through his children’s participation. He has a back ground as keel boat sailor with blue water experience, particularly shorthanded. In a country where sailing opportunities are plentiful he is keen to see this entry class opened to all comers.
Bryce Day – Secretary retiring November 2020 – Vacant Position
Bryce is the NZIODA Secretary. He is from Murrays Bay Sailing Club. He has sailed Optimist and P Class when he was a child and enjoyed the friendships, competition and life skills that the sport of yachting brings. His wife, Tracey is also involved and can be found helping with club results. He has two sailors in the open fleet and one sailor who has been through the Opti and is currently sailing a Waspz and 420’s.
Emmanuel Malpot – Selection retiring November 2020 – Vacant Position
Emmanuel From Nelson Yacht Club overseas the Selection requirements for NZIODA, Manu has been supporting his son on the New Zealand optimist scene for the last 5 years. Originally from Brittany in France, Manu has sailed optimist himself when young then most youth classes before becoming an instructor. Manu is well aware of the challenges regional and especially South Island sailors face and is keen to ensure that the optimist class in New Zealand remains inclusive of all.
Andy Stone – Asset Management
Andy overseas the Asset Management requirements of NZIODA. From Kohimarama Yacht Club in Auckland. Andy has 2 children, Oli and Zoe who are currently sailing optimists. He is an enthusiastic sailor himself, he started out in Optimist and transitioned to Starlings before moving onto cherubs, skiffs, 470 and multi hulls. Andy is keen to promote the interests of the Optimist Sailors at all levels.
John Bullot – Officials Pathway
John overseas the Officials Pathway. He is an International Judge and since 2008 has been NZIODA’s lead judge at all its Ranking Regattas. John has been a sailor since his teenage days starting in the P Class and moving early into keel boats. During John’s sailing judging career he has been a judge at many World Championships, including two Optimist World Championships and has been Chairman of the jury at five World Championships. John is approachable and welcomes sailing rules questeions from sailors or their parents.
Glenn Armstrong – Coaches Pathway
Glenn overseas the Coaches Pathway and is from Worser Bay Boating Club in Wellington. Glenn has been an Opti sailing parent for the last 7 years with Luke his oldest and now Chloe. Glenn was the Race Coordinator for the 2015 and 2020 Opti Nationals at Worser Bay. He is a keen and committed 12ft skiff sailor.
Dan Leetch – Sailor Pathway
Dan overseas the Sailor Pathway for NZIODA. From Charteris Bay Yacht Club in Christchurch. Dan has two boys currently sailing Optimists, Will and Jonty. Dan grew up sailing Optimists, P Class, Starlings then move onto skiffs, foiling skiffs and then foiling moths. Dan works in the marine industry as a Naval architect.
Gavin Brady – Skills Coordinator Pathway
Gavin overseas the Skills Coordinator Pathway and is from Wakatere Boating Club in Auckland. Gavin has had two children come through the Optimist fleet over the last six years. He is an experienced sailor and has competed in four Americas Cups and Two Volvo Ocean Races along with sailing the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the Star Class for New Zealand. Gavin current works in the sailing industry on probject management for race teams
