NZIODA recently held a Team Clinic for the top 25 ranked sailors who are still eligible to sail Optimists in the 20/21 season. With no international events on the horizon, and missing out on their chance to represent New Zealand, the aim of the clinic was to recognize the success of these young sailors who put a lot of effort into improving their sailing throughout last season. Another key aim was for the group to come together to start to build friendships and a team culture going into this next season.
The offshore breezes ranging from 5-20 knots gave the sailors a good range of conditions to test their skills. Each day we finished with 2-3 races that were scored, counting towards a regatta. It was intense competitive racing with nobody able to avoid a drop on their scorecard.

Congratulations to the following:
Girls: 1st Nicola Hume, 2nd Chloe Armstrong and 3rd Tessa Clinton
Boys: 1st Will Leech, 2nd Sean Kensington and 3rd Joe Leith
With plenty of domestic regattas coming up before Christmas, starting with the Toyota Optimist Nationals In Worser Bay, it should be an exciting summer of sailing ahead. Thanks to the OWNZ Trust, NZIODA committee, Takapuna Boating Club, and our coaches and parent volunteers for all making the weekend such a success. We look forward to the opportunity to do this again at the North Island NZIODA training clinic (formally known as the Eastern Beaches Clinic) coming up in January.Â
