NZIODA’s Girls Development Team had their second training clinic at Murrays Bay last weekend. The Team is comprised of 10 girls in 2019 ranging from 11 – 15 years old, with 5 from Auckland, 1 Tauranga, 2 Wellington, 1 Picton and 1 Christchurch. The geography spread enabled the Team to have a training weekend in Wellington in June also. To keep travel costs down, sailors are being billeted when they travel, enabling parents to stay at home, with Optis borrowed for the travelling sailors.
Coaches for the GDT are Olivia Christie and Xanthie Copeland.
Excellent sailing conditions last weekend saw the Team maximise their hours on the water, with a huge bonus visit of a pod of dolphins.
The Team will compete in Murrays Bays Stack Winter Champs Regatta, 4-6 October, and head to the New Caledonian Nationals mid October.
