Registration is required for all sailors entering the Optimist ranking regattas. The fee is $50 per family to join NZIODA for the season. Here are the instructions:
Please be aware that selection for the Worlds is now based on the top 5 ranked sailors at the conclusion of the Optimist Nationals regatta. This is a change that was made at the 2015 AGM (previously selection was based on the top 5 placings at the Nationals).
At the AGM held at Worser Bay the NZIODA Committee have changed the class policy regarding the requirement to display the red flag when protesting in fleet races and decided that no protest flag will required.
The sailing instruction which deleted rule 61.1(a)(2) will no longer be used so that a red flag is no longer required to make a valid protest. However, the need to inform the race committee at the finish of an intention to protest and the sail number of the protested boat, remains.

Are you new to the open fleet and are hearing about Opti ranking regattas, the National Rankings, selections for travelling teams, NAMs, Europeans, and Worlds. What is it all about? How does it all work?
The 'Green Fleet' is for the less experienced Optimist Class sailors, to encourage novices to attend their first Optimist regatta and to encourage their continued participation in Optimist racing. The emphasis is on fun and the objective of Green Fleet regattas is to offer younger siblings and less experienced sailors the opportunity to sail and participate without their feeling the need or burden to sail in the more competitive open fleet.
